PRESS: Russia’s imports of laptops with no preinstalled OS rise
MOSCOW, Jul 6 (PRIME) -- Laptop shipments to Russia without a preinstalled operating system (OS) increased to 60% of the total volume of the imported devices by June from 40% in March–May, business daily Kommersant reported on Wednesday.
Distributors expect this share to leap to 80–90% by September, the daily said.
A representative of electronics retailer M.Video-Eldorado said that the majority of the laptops it sells have an installed Windows system of macOS.
A source close to Huawei said that the volume of the laptops brought to Russia without an operating system will reach a half soon.
Almost all the brands represented on the Russian market offer variants of laptops without an operating system, and such devices are cheaper. Sources explained the decision of some distributors to supply devices without an operating system by an intention to cap the price growth.
Meanwhile the government is considering the matter of compulsory preinstallation of national operation systems on imported gadgets.
